Why I make music

Sometimes creating is how I get the poison out.

I don't really separate music from the rest of what I make anymore.

Something happens. Something gets stuck in my head. Something hurts, scares me, excites me, frustrates me, makes me feel alive, or refuses to leave me alone.

Sometimes it becomes a photograph. Sometimes it becomes a page. Sometimes it becomes a tiny movie.

And sometimes it needs drums, distortion, feedback, rhythm, and somewhere to go.

That's what the music is.

Right now

The album is taking shape.

I've had music trapped inside me for years.

Now I'm letting it out without forcing it into one genre, one mood, or somebody else's definition of what a record should sound like.

Song by song. Film by film. Different medium. Same life.

The sound

Raw enough to still feel human.

Guitars that sound like guitars. Drums that breathe. Vocals that aren't polished into oblivion. If it loses the feeling, the polish is not worth much.

The point

Make something from it.

The song doesn't have to fix the life. Sometimes making the song is simply what keeps the life moving.
