Some things need sound.

Twenty-one years later, I made the record.

Sometimes I can write it down. Sometimes I can photograph it. Sometimes I can make a film about it.

And sometimes the only honest response is to plug in a guitar, hit record, and turn it up.

The In-Between is what happened when I returned to music after twenty-one years away and stopped waiting for somebody else's permission to make the thing I could hear in my head.

The In-Between arrives October 17.

The new album releases independently on October 17, 2026 and will be available on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music and wherever you normally listen to music.

No label. No major studio. No outside producer shaping it into somebody else's record.

I learned how to record, engineer, produce, mix and master because I had songs in my head and needed a way to get them out.

Why I make music

Sometimes creating is how I get the poison out.

I don't really separate music from the rest of what I make anymore.

Something happens. Something gets stuck in my head. Something hurts, scares me, excites me, frustrates me, makes me feel alive, or simply refuses to leave me alone.

Sometimes it becomes a photograph. Sometimes it becomes a page. Sometimes it becomes a film.

And sometimes it needs drums, distortion, feedback, rhythm, melody and somewhere to go.

That's what the music is.

The record

The album is finished.

I spent eight months learning, failing, recording, re-recording, mixing, listening, changing things, and eventually learning when to stop.

The imperfections stayed. So did the humanity.

The sound

Raw enough to still feel human.

Guitars that sound like guitars. Drums that breathe. Vocals that still sound like a person standing in front of a microphone. If polish removes the feeling, the polish isn't worth much.

The story

Grief. Love. Fear. Change. Starting over.

The record came out of a period where nearly everything I thought my life was becoming changed. The songs became somewhere to put what I couldn't solve.

The process

I didn't know how. So I learned.

Recording. Microphones. Engineering. Production. Mixing. Mastering. Arrangement. Mistakes. Starting again.

The point

Make something from it.

The song doesn't have to fix the life. Sometimes making the song is simply what gives the experience somewhere to go.

If it hit you

I'm less interested in whether you think the snare should be two decibels louder than I am in what the song actually did to you.

What did it make you remember?

What line stayed with you?

What version of yourself showed up?

What are you going through?

What are you making from it?

That's the part I'm interested in.

I wrote The In-Between about creativity, identity, love, loss, failure, starting over, and trying to understand who you are when the old answers stop working.

The music and the book aren't separate projects anymore. They're different ways of trying to get at the same thing.
